Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
