A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by three suspects, with one opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.
The reason of the shooting remains unclear and no arrests have taken place, police said.

Authorities said that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a location in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

"The report indicates the man was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement said.
Security camera video reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the scene.

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have seen the suspects to contact them.
"We know they traveled on foot after the shooting, and officers have been attempting to locate them to find their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.
