Outrage Erupts as Former President Trump's Post on Rob Reiner Spurs Sharp Criticism

Individuals from across the political spectrum and the Hollywood world are coming together to censure Donald Trump for his remarks following the shocking passing of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Online Post

Following the discovery of the couple dead at their Los Angeles residence, Trump took to his platform to label the late director as "tortured and suffering". The post, he asserted Reiner's death was "due to the hostility he caused others through his enormous, relentless, and incurable condition with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Police Developments and Detention

Authorities have since announced the detention of the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in connection with the case. It is reported his bond was set at a substantial amount.

A Wave of Condemnation from Celebrities and Politicians

The reaction to Trump's post was swift and scathing.

“What a vile and despicable statement,” remarked actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a close acquaintance, similarly condemned the statements. She referenced previous comments from Trump regarding the killing of an activist, demanding, "Have you no decency? Can you get any lower?"

The state of California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "This is a disturbed man."

Echoing this view, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "He is a contemptible piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "Trump has just lost it. Now saying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own murder because they didn’t support him. Deeply disturbing."

Criticism from His Own Political Ranks

Some GOP elected officials also voiced dismay.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a family tragedy, not about political feuds or rivals". Greene also mentioned struggles with substance abuse and psychological well-being some families face.

Fellow GOP representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "inappropriate and disgraceful" considering the circumstances. He openly dared members in his political party to justify the comments.

Reiner's Legacy and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a outspoken critic of Donald Trump. In a previous interview, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the presidency. He had also warned about the risks of autocracy should Trump be reelected to power.

"We see autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner noted. "Should the United States crumble, there’s a danger that democratic systems collapse around the world."

Despite his strong opposition, Reiner had previously expressed "complete revulsion" and denounced political violence unequivocally following the shooting of a different political figure.

A Notable Link: The Art of the Deal

Providing a layer of historical irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the cover image for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously shared the story of the photo shoot, noting Trump's request for "special hairspray" as being photographed on a high-rise overlooking Central Park.
