President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.

Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump addressed the press. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”

Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.

“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the head of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always willing to help others.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The incident prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and temporarily stop providing entry permits to holders of travel documents.

Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey stated on a news program.

Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
